Epson introduces fourth generation Moverio AR glasses: work and leisure

Epson has announced the fourth generation of AR glasses in the Moverio line. This latest generation consists of the BT-40 and B40S, both tailored for different markets. With the new models, improvements have been made in the field of pixel density, field of view and improved user comfort.

The BT-40 is presented by Epson as AR glasses for business executives adapting to modern lifestyles and working from home. The glasses would be suitable for users who work outside the office but in public areas. A USB-C port is provided with which the glasses can be connected to, for example, a smartphone or laptop to be used as an external monitor.

According to Epson, the BT-40S would mainly be of interest for use by museums, amusement parks, and cinemas, for example. The Moverio Intelligent Controller would be custom developed for various commercial applications and includes multiple connectivity options such as WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and an audio connection. The BT-40S should be more durable than its’ S’-less brother due to an ipx2 certification.

In addition to the aforementioned uses suggested by Epson, you can of course also enjoy a game or a movie with these glasses. Both glasses have a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a Field of View of 34 degrees and 60 Hz refresh rate. This should make the viewing experience comparable to viewing a 120-inch screen from 5 meters away. The previous Moverio generation offered a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and a field of view of 23 degrees. The further developed Si-OLED screen offers a contrast ratio of 500,000: 1.

The BT40 is available from this month for an as yet unknown amount. The BT40S also does not have a price tag yet and will be available a little later, namely from February 2021.
