Google gets patent on regular smart glasses

When Google first introduced Google Glass, most were quite impressed. Unfortunately, the world at that time was not yet ready for smart glasses and it went really bad for them to say the least. It’s still not clear if the world is ready for smart glasses, but Google does not seem to have given up.

Google is applying for a patent on regular Google Glass glasses

According to a patent that has been discovered by Patently Apple, Google has applied for a patent on something resembling a pair of smart glasses. However, there are a number of differences between these new glasses and the originals.

This time, the glasses look more like a pair of regular glasses instead of something from a sci-fi movie. This, of course, will to a much greater extent make them anonymous, so that they blend into the street scene.

Will not leave the market to Apple

Whether it is a product that Google intends to develop into a finished product, we do not know anything about yet. Patents are never a guarantee of a finished product. But it’s a little surprising that Google is still interested in developing wearables.

This is what the original Google Glass looked like:

Arch-rival Apple is said to be working on a pair of smart glasses that could be ready within the next few years. Google may simply not be quite ready to leave that market to Apple without a fight.
