Chinese Bytedance rejects Microsoft’s bid for the US part of the video app Tiktok. Instead, Bytedance chooses IT giant Oracle, according to several media outlets.
– Bytedance has today informed us that they will not sell TikTok’s American business to Microsoft, it was said in a statement from Microsoft on Sunday.
– We are confident that our bid would have been good for TikTok’s users, and at the same time safeguard national security, it was further stated in the statement.
For the sake of US national security, President Donald Trump has demanded that Chinese Bytedance sell TikTok’s operations in the US. If it does not happen by September 15, the app will be banned in the US.
Following the announcement from Microsoft, several American media, including The Washington Post, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal and NBC, announced that Oracle’s bid for TikTok’s American business has been given the green light instead. This has not been confirmed and Oracle has declined to comment.
TikTok has not responded to AP’s inquiries to comment on the case, but Bytedance has previously denied that TikTok poses any danger to US national security.
